Eye Screening at the UN Burmese Refugee Camp
We travelled to a UN refugee camp to help refugees who have fled Burma. Our surgeon friend, Dr Quadery (and his medical helpers) screened upto 150 patients for eye diseases and prescriptions were written up (medicines were provided on a diffrent day) for those whom we could help. Seventeen patients are deemed to require eye surgery, including cataract operations. Please help us provide these opeations to be held in July and August. We have plans to assist over 600 operation patients if we can raise enough money (see the appeal report on the right) - and of course, photos will be provided.

The girl and woman are post-eye op patients from May who were here for a free follow up consultation. They are doing great. Thanks to those who helped them in May 2008
Some of the poor refugee patients who will need surgery
Rasida, age 60 plus, top right, begs for a living, and resides in a refugee camp. She is Burmese, but she is now stateless and poor. When Mercy Mankind told her that she has been selected for completely free treatment, and when she was told we will operate to remove her cataract, pay for her hospital stay and medication, she began to weep uncontrollably. Please help people like her and others by donating to our SAVE A SIGHT FUND

Sewing training For Poor Women
Free sewing classes are provided to poor women and teenage girls so that they can learn a skill and obtain work as a tailor. This is our second batch of students, 10 in total, who will be trained on machines (donated by some generous folk) for 3 months, after which they will sit exams and graduate. The training, materials, and transport for some is completely free for the girls - we pay for it all, thanks to you. Please continue to help us. You are helping change a poor person's life.

FREE HEALTH CLINIC FOR NEARLY 100 POOR PEOPLE - KARACHI
This free health clinic is the first one we have done in Pakistan and as a result, we experienced some teething issues (delays) for which we apologise. Last month we distributed leaflets inviting poor people to attend a free clinic where they will be seen to by specialist government qulified doctors and be given advice and general medicines. The doctors let us down, and cancelled at the last minute. This clinic was then rescheduled for the 29 June 2008, today. The following photos are only a few hours old.
