April 2007 Sanitation Programme
Location: Saidpur (North-West Bangladesh)
Programme: Sanitation (Building toilets)
Toilets constructed free of charge.
275 people will benefit for 5 years
Date: May 11 2007 (April Project Was Delayed until this date)
This project was meant to have been undertaken in April 2007. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, it was delayed until 11 May. We decided to still call it by the name "April 2007" because we have another project planned for this month, and besides, it is really last months planned project. Now that we have confused you, lets move on!
To better understand what the sanitation programme is , please see our work for FEB 2007 . You will see more pictures of the actual toilets that we built and how they were built.
For this project, we went to Sayedpur, a poor part of North-West Bangladesh. We met and discussed their requirements with the local villagers who are poor, over tea and biscuits which we provided. We agreed on where to construct the new toilets with the villagers. Prior to our visit, these people did not have the opportunity to use hygienic toilets. This was resulting in poor hygiene and can contribute to ill health and diarrohea.
There are about 25 people in each family block as can be seen in the photos - adults, with a large number of children. We installed 11 new toilets for each family block. These toilets will last about 5 years and we hope it will improve the overall health of the people and be a source of convenience to them.
We thank the people of this village for their friendliness and hospitality. Please view our work, and donate if you can so we may help more people through our ongoing monthly projects which we at present fund from our own salaries.
