The Persecution of Burmese Rohingya People

The Burmese Rohingya people hail from the yellow regions on the map above but have been forced to flee into Bangladesh (details below) by the Burmese Junta.

There have been reports of systematic rape as a tool for ethnic cleansing of Rohingya people, forced labour, destruction of mosques, extra-judicial executions and more. (Source: verbal accounts and a detailed report by Amnesty International  (http://web.amnesty.org/library/Index/ENGASA160052004 )

For Rohingya youth, getting married is a huge problem as they first needed permission from local authorities and sometimes, after a promise that the married couple will have no more than two children. Source http://www.refintl.org/content /article/detail/9137/

"In Burma in 1992, government troops rounded up Rohingya Muslim men for forced labor, then  returned to villages and raped the women left behind. In December 1991, Jahura Khatu's husband was taken by government soldiers for forced labor from their home in the Arakan province. The soldiers returned repeatedly to the house and raped Jahura. In early 1992, soldiers forced Jahura at gunpoint to march with three other women to a nearby military camp where all four women were raped repeatedly for twenty-four hours."
