CLEAN DRINKING WATER FOR PAKISTANI REFUGEES, 21 Oct 2007

4 Tube wells were installed at this camp for Pakistani refugees who are stranded in Bangladesh after the 1971 war between these two countries. They are too poor to travel to Pakistan, and Pakistan does not, or cannot take them home. Most live in ghettos (pictures below) and are extremely poor. About 2,500 refugees live in this camp. Thank YOU for helping us with this project.

We installed 1 brand new well from scratch. The other 3 wells had dried up a long time ago and the top parts were missing. We used the existing concrete base for the latter (to save on costs) and installed these 3 wells on top and got them working again.

All the wells might look rusty and "old". They are in fact new. The hand pumps are made of iron and so rusts easily in storage.

Voila: Clean water! We used the existing concrete base for this one. The pump on top is new although looks rusty - its normal.

What can you do for these refugees?

- Write to the UN representative in your country high-lighting the plight of these refugees. They just want to go to Pakistan.

- Write to your local senator or your local MP making them aware of their plight.

- Speak to your local media.

- Help us help these refugees. Mark your donations with the words "refugees fund" , or email us using the contact page after making any donation. We will use these funds to help refugees (Burmese or Pakistani Refugees) only - as necessary.

Our policy: 100% donations go on projects, 0% on admin.
